I’m starting to find The Daily Show less amusing. I mean, yeah, LoL, but the more I watch it the more I feel like they’re not really interested in portraying the world with anything like accuracy.

Like…LOL! We can’t find a way to fly a plane without making it go over a war! THERE’S WAR EVERYWHERE! WE’RE SO FUCKED!

Care to hazard when the last decade was when fewer than 55,000 people per year were killed in wars (which is the case for the last decade)?

Never.

Fucking Never. Not in recorded history have we experienced as much extended peace as we have right now…and it’s not an anomaly! There’s been a consistent and perpetual downward trend for the last 100 years. Per capita, the downward trend lasts literally thousands of years.

Global violent crime is also steadily decreasing. So is disease and per capita death. What’s increasing? The number of hot showers per person and number of televisions per person and number of people who can read and number of live births per birth.

DO YOU BELIEVE I’M TALKING IN AN ANGRY VOICE ABOUT HOW I AM LIVING IN THE MOST PROSPEROUS COUNTRY DURING THE MOST PROSPEROUS AGE IN HUMAN HISTORY!! I’M SO ANGRY WHY CAN’T WE JUST ACCEPT THAT SHIT’S ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!

I don’t mean that we don’t have a lot of problems to solve. Yes, let’s keep working our fucking asses off making shit better for ourselves and each other. Yes! Let’s FUCKING DO THAT! I’m SICK OF WAR! To the people in Syria…in Ukraine…in Israel and Palestine…thinking of what you have to go through makes me sick with worry and anger.

But we are doing better…we’re doing better…because of people working hard to make the world better.
